Rendering of jaw with dental bridge from Jeanette Thai, DDS in Lake Forest, CA.For well-fitting bridges that will be with you for years to come, the team at Jeanette Thai, DDS is happy to help.

Although our teeth are quite strong, they are not impervious. They can become damaged over time from gradual wear and tear. They can also become damaged from injury. Plus, of course, teeth often have to be extracted when they cannot be saved through root canals because of the effects of tooth decay and other oral health issues. This can mean that you are left with gaps where your teeth once used to be. Not only can this be unsightly but it can also make it difficult to eat, drink and even speak.

Filling the Gaps

Fortunately for everybody with gaps that need to be filled between teeth, our expert team can help. We are experts in creating bridges that help to fill the gaps perfectly. They restore full functionality, making it easy to eat again. What’s more is that other people will barely even notice that you have bridges at all. After a while, you may even forget yourself that you have bridges.

Bridges are so called because they form a bridge between existing teeth. Teeth on either side of the gaps are used as anchors, known as abutments. These supporting teeth are usually given crowns to help ready them for the role of supporting the bridge. Another type of bridge is the Maryland bonded bridges. This type is made of false teeth that are supported by a metal structure. The framework is at the back of the teeth, meaning it is not usually visible from the front.

The bridge that spans the teeth either side of the gap also holds false teeth, known as pontics. These false teeth fit perfectly into the gap, making for a replacement that is barely noticeable. These false teeth can be made from a range of materials, including alloys, gold, and porcelain. Porcelain tends to be the most popular because they appear the most natural. Gold is also a popular option for its aesthetic appeal, although this will be more expensive.

Preparation

Before the bridge can be fixed, we will need to prepare your teeth. As mentioned above, this can include placing crowns on your teeth as well as other procedures. Once your teeth are ready, we will then take an impression of your teeth. This way, we can make sure the crown fits perfectly. Your bridge will then need to be constructed so we will need to make another appointment to fit the bridge when it is ready. In the meantime, we will provide you with a temporary bridge until yours is ready for you.

Bridges are usually designed to be permanent. Provided you take reasonable care of them, they will stay in place and serve you well for many years to come. They will help you with eating and speaking, while also help to restore your smile to its full beauty.
